Chile de Arbol is closely related to the cayenne pepper and is popular in western Mexico, where it can be found in much of the regional cuisine. It is also commonly referred to as the “bird beak” or “rat tail” chile. This single-variety chili powder is made by milling whole dried De Arbol Chiles and is a pure chile product. It contains no fillers and no other varieties of chile.

Ingredients: De Arbol Chile Peppers
The de Arbol pepper is considered a hot chile and comes in at 15,000 – 30,000 SHU (Scoville Heat Units).
Add to sauces, soups or chiles for heat and flavor. Whisk into mayonnaise for a spicy spread.
Many competition chili chefs find the flavor of the de Arbol peppers to be superior to other chile peppers. We like to use these in place of cayenne chile powder as the de Arbol while being similar in heat has more flavor.

DE ARBOL CHILE POWDER 11 LBS CASE

The De Arbol Chile is known for its thin flesh, searing heat, and woody stem. Unlike many other chiles, these retain their bright, rich color through the drying process. This conveniently pulverized version of the pepper allows for easy use and long shelf life.

De Arbol Chiles are known for their long, thin pods and thick woody stems, even contributing to the name of this chile which translates from Spanish to “treelike.” This exceptionally hot pepper is used for its flavor and is also treasured for its bright red color that maintains its hue through the drying process. These peppers are often used for decoration and wreath-making to celebrate cultural heritage and vibrancy.

The de Arbol pepper is considered a hot chile and comes in at 15,000 – 30,000 SHU (Scoville Heat Units). As a comparison, the Chipotle “Morita” (considered a medium heat chile) comes in at 5,000 -10,000 SHU and the Habanero (considered a crazy hot chile) comes in at 150,000 – 325,000 SHU). As with practically all but the mildest chiles, it should be handled properly during preparation as the oil in the Arbol chile is extremely irritating to the eyes or any small cuts on the hands.

De Arbol chiles have a natural, grassy flavor with a hint of nuttiness. The flavor of De Arbol chile is considered superior to other chile peppers by many competition chili chefs and is considered a staple chile in many southwestern US kitchens.
